Martyna is a singer-songwriter whose roots lie in acoustic music and whose heart lies firmly in jazz. The result is a mix of unforgettable melodies and beautifully crafted songs that are built to last.
In 2006 Martyna was chosen as one of only 5 people in the country to take part in the Leverhulme Artist Development program. During this time she worked with songwriters such as Boo Hewerdine, Cara Dillon and David Knopfler resulting in the release of 'The Trouble With Me' EP which received glowing reviews. Following it's release Martyna was the first artist featured on The BBC Business of Sound, a radio show dedicated to emerging new talent and was invited to perform tracks from this EP at the prestigious opening of Stage 2 at The Stables.
In 2007 a meeting with jazz pianist and arranger John Bowman led to the singer-songwriter taking a leap into the world of jazz. Her love of jazz began early on with the discovery of vocalists such as Julie London and Nina Simone and resulted in her writing and performing her first jazz song 'Someone Else's Lover' at age 13. However during the years that followed influences such as Joan Armatrading and Carole King led Martyna away from the jazz scene and she spent the next 10 years writing and performing as a solo artist.
Martyna has twice attended the Sligo Jazz Project which included working with noted jazz vocalists Norma Winstone and Anita Wardell. Martyna also had the privilege of performing her original song 'Just Another Woman' to an audience that included bassist Rufus Reid and jazz drummer Paul Wertico.
In November 2009 Martyna released her first jazz recording 'Oh Butterfly' and was profiled as an up-and-coming artist on Jazz FM. Oh Butterfly continues to receive critical acclaim and has achieved world wide sales and airplay.
In 2010 Martyna was profiled in Jazz Life UK, a project documenting the UK jazz scene and is considered one of the UK's rising jazz singer-songwriters.
Martyna has toured extensively all over the UK and was also invited to perform with jazz pianist Thomas Hufschmidt in Germany in late 2010.Live gigs have included performing at concert halls in London, Cambridge, Birmingham and many other cities as well as performing at numerous festivals and music shows including the BBC Stage at The Rhythms of the World, LIMS, Musik Messe and most recently at the International Festival.
